Mike Castle Claims To Support Our Troops
But he sure has a weird way of showing it. Since he’s my congressman, and I voted for him last November, AND my stepson is a Marine, I called the Congressman at his Washington DC office today and voiced my displeasure for his support of the Democratic bill condemning the troop build up.
He can vote his conscience, but so can I – and I won’t forget this vote which emboldens those who target my stepson and those he serves with.

John Brodey:
The White House ‘claims’ to support our troops too and yet they have treated them like so much cannon fodder. Walter Reade is only the surface, they have cut back benefits for military families, failed to support them in the field properly etc. to say nothing of having no particular plan in the first place. All reprehensible actions. Time to move on from the tired old trap of equating support for the war with supporting our troops. That dog won’t hunt anymore, just too tired and overworked. The vote to get out doesn’t embolden anyone, get real. You think they could actually be any bolder than killing our men and women off at will. Good grief. We are going to have to accept the painful fact that this terrible sacrifice was unnecessary and pointless. Time for the chicken hawks to be held accountable.

It’s extremely understandable that you don’t want your stepson to be a target but he (and only he) has made the choice to become one. As said above, it’s a perversion of logic to believe that not supporting the war is not supporting our troops in Iraq. Where is the connection? Furthermore, this “terrorist emboldening” mentality may actually save your step-son’s life by sending him back to you and his loved ones. If you believe that his death will protect you or anyone else from “Jihad” then you are willingly sacrificing a family member for your own safety.

It’s interesting that you comment to this post – made at the time the so-called “Surge” was being debated – at the end of the year when even the mainstream media has been forced to admit its success. My stepson and his comrades support the war in Iraq. He himself has told me that he and his men think those who claim to support the troops but oppose the war are idiots. He likens it to people who claim to support the police but mug people, steal cars or deal drugs. “If they want to support us, give us what we need to finish the job,” is almost a direct quote of his.
Yes I believe that his death will protect me – and you – from jihad, but I have not done so willingly. He made this choice on his own: I had nothing to do with it – but I still have to live with it.
