After all, the terms Liberal and Conservative really have lost their meaning considering many on the Left back reactionary forces (like radical Islam - see Horowitz’s book advertised on the left side of the blog for more on that). I subscribed recently to the New Scientist (boy was that a mistake. I thought I was going to get science news, and am instead getting an earful of Euroweenie vitriol in articles debating the merit of the ban on collaborating with Israeli scientists - but I digress). The current issue has an article about the trouble down in the Galapagos Islands between the locals who fish and the park, which doesn’t want them to. The article went on and on about how important the sea cucumber was for the ecosystem - but never mentioned how the locals were supposed to feed their families! I have been active in conservation since I spent a year in Tanzania supposedly chasing chimps, but actually finding work for the locals and treating their diseases and injuries. I’ve seen the needs of people completely ignored or forgotten when discussing wildlife - and I associate this more with the Left than the Right. My bad.
