We waited 8 months to finish taking Fallujah so that, if things broke ugly, it wouldn’t look bad for the Prez in the runup to 11/2. 2. Before March of ‘03 Zarqawi was in Kurdistan hanging out with Ansar al-Islam and testing nerve agents on dogs. Bush (more specifically, Rice) took a pass on military proposals for moving on him because it would weaken the overall case for invading Iraq. My point is the decision to invade Iraq and the prosecution of the war since then has been driven by political reasons that have little to do with making US citizens safer or Iraq a better place for Iraqis, and lots to do with consolidating Bush’s domestic position and making his buddies extremely wealthy.
